Celebrate the race that stops a nation with this prestigious 2010 150th Running of the Melbourne Cup Silver Proof Two-Coin Set from the Royal Australian Mint.
Created in partnership with the Victoria Racing Club, the set contains two Australian 50-cent coins honouring the most recognisable symbols of the Melbourne Cup. One coin features legendary racehorse Phar Lap, while the second depicts the iconic Melbourne Cup trophy. Selective gold plating highlights key elements of each design, creating a striking contrast against the mirrored silver proof fields.
Each coin was struck from 18.24 grams of 99.9% pure silver and measures 31.51mm in diameter. Together, the two coins have a combined gross weight of 36.48 grams, equivalent to approximately 1.173 troy ounces. Both carry Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse.
The set was limited to only 5,000 examples and was fully subscribed. Originally presented in a solid timber case with a numbered certificate of authenticity, it is a highly desirable release for Royal Australian Mint, Melbourne Cup, horse-racing and Australian sporting collections.
Please inspect the supplied photographs for the set’s exact condition and included presentation packaging.
