Issued by the Royal Australian Mint in 2005, this impressive $1 silver proof coin commemorates the 150th anniversary of the historic 1855 Sydney Mint Half Sovereign.
The original 1855 sovereign and half sovereign were the first sovereign coins produced outside Britain, making them significant milestones in Australian numismatic history. This modern tribute recreates the exceptionally rare Sydney Mint Half Sovereign with selective gold plating, contrasting beautifully against the coin’s detailed silver proof surfaces.
The coin was struck from approximately 60.5 grams of 99.9% pure silver, equal to approximately 1.945 troy oz, and measures 50mm in diameter. Its design incorporates Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II and a reproduction of the historic Half Sovereign by Royal Australian Mint sculptor Wojciech Pietranik.
With a final mintage of only 11,845, this ninth release in the RAM Subscription Silver Proof series is highly desirable among sovereign, Australian heritage and Royal Australian Mint collectors.
The coin was originally issued in a gold-coloured presentation case with a numbered certificate and protective outer box. Please inspect the photographs for its exact condition and included packaging.
